武家屋敷、神社仏閣や古い建物が立ち並び、その中に石畳が広がる風情ある場所です。
二王座歴史の道とは？
「二王座歴史の道」は臼杵市を代表する、風情ある観光スポットの一つです。
阿蘇山の火山灰が固まってできた凝灰岩の丘があり、そこの岩を削り、作った細道が二王座歴史の道です。
狭い箇所もありますが、道の端には大きなお寺・武家屋敷跡（現在はカフェ）等を見ることができ、
地面には「石畳」がきれいに敷き詰められています。
この「二王座歴史の道」を歩くと、城下町の面影を感じることができ、歩いていて江戸時代にタイムスリップしたかのような、どこか懐かしく新鮮な気持ちにさせてくれます。
また、雨の日には石畳がしっとりと湿気を帯びて、ふだんとは違う景色と空間を彩ってくれます。
下の写真の「旧真光寺（写真左側）」の前の道は、「切り通し」と呼ばれる、臼杵を代表する景観のひとつです。
※旧真光寺は無料の休憩所になっています（無人）。
二王座歴史の道を歩く際には、こちらに立ち寄り1階奥、また2階から景色を眺めてみると一望できます（下記写真は1階）。
