大分県臼杵市は人口35,000人の小さい町ですが、実はイベントがかなり開催されています。

でも、臼杵市について何も知らない人や、あまり地元に興味がない市民は

大きいイベント以外、どんなものが開催されているのかな？
もっと地元を知る事のできる催しはあるかな？

となかなか知る機会も少ないのが現状です。

この「地元の人が作る・楽しむ」イベントを知ることで臼杵の暮らしでの楽しみ方が全く変わってきます。今回紹介するのは、そんな「地元の人が作るイベント」についてご紹介をします。

【臼杵の地域活性】地元の人が積極的につくる催し

臼杵市は約35,000人くらいの小さい町ですが、年間を通して大小様々なイベントが開催されている町でもあります。

臼杵市の「うすき竹宵」や「臼杵祇園まつり」など観光的に有名なイベントもありますが、それとは別に地域の人たちが自分たちの力で作り上げるイベントもあります。

その「地元の人が作る・楽しむ」イベントの種類として大きく分けて

大小あれど、どれも「自分たちで作りあげて」おり、市内外の人に認知を得ているイベントも増えてきています。

【臼杵のイベント】種類も意味合いも個性豊かなイベント

保護者が集まって作るイベント

地域の「お父さん」たちが集まる団体「すぅぼんこの会」があります。
このイベント、ただの保護者の集まりだけというわけじゃなく、

総合公園にウォータースライダーを作る（リーフ・デ・オヨゲ）、
公園や臼杵石仏のレプリカにイルミネーション

と、かなり大掛かりなイベントを開催しています。

地域のお店が集まって作るイベント

臼杵市内のお店、また市内に限らず市外のお店まで集まるイベント（マルシェ）が開催されています。
各イベントでコンセプトはありますが、多くの人に支持おり、開催された際には沢山の人が来場しています。

癒しカフェ

お母さんたちが楽しめるようにマッサージ・託児所・月曜日開催など工夫がされています。

うすきマルシェ

市内外のお店や個人の方が出店しており、雑貨・アクセサリーやお食事、またワークショップも楽しめるイベントです。

人と人のつながりで集まったお店が、月1ぐらいでマルシェが開催されています。

臼杵の商店街の人たちが作るイベント

毎年恒例で夏になると、臼杵市中央商店街主催の「土曜夜市」が開催されます。
かなり昔から開催されている土曜夜市は、商店街の人達が一丸となって盛り上げ今も多くの子供たちを楽しませています。
土曜夜市の他にも、商店街の道沿いをすべてパン屋さんにした、「パンストリート」なども開催されます。

各地区の地域振興協議会が作るイベント

臼杵市には、地域内の団体が世代や性別の枠を超えて連携して活動していくことを目的に、旧小学校区ごとに「地域振興協議会」が設置されています。
各地区の地域振興協議会は、地域の特性を生かしたイベントを定期的に開催しています。

イベントも大小ありますが、三世代交流イベントや地域の盆踊り、またカラオケ大会など学校の設備を利用したイベントも開催しています。
コロナ禍でみんなを元気づけるために道路の壁面に「アマビエ」の苔アートを描いたりもしました。

臼杵の海沿いのあるこの地域は、地域性を活かした地引網体験や魚つかみ体験ができる「大漁まつり」や、廃校した小学校のグラウンドなどを最大限煮利用した「臼杵最大級イルミネーションフェスティバル」などを開催しています。

などなど、振興協議会は地域の特徴を活かしたイベントが多いです。

地元の人達が作る「季節」を感じるイベント

臼杵市は自然豊かな地域です。これら自然を愛する地元の人々やこども園、また企業などが季節的な景観づくりを活発にしています。

地元のこども園が、アジサイロードという長い道に、鯉のぼりを並べたり、紫陽花の花をきれいに植えたりして道沿いを通る人の目を楽しませます。
また、紫陽花といえば臼杵市の「妙顕寺」はあじさい寺と呼ばれ、季節になると境内はたくさんの紫陽花の花がきれいに咲きます。

他にも、野津町のひまわり畑は一度にすべて見るのが大変なくらい多くのひまわりの花で埋め尽くされます。他にも佐志生の菜の花やそばの花畑などもひと目見ようと多くの人が来場します。

地域の文化や伝承が受け継がれたイベント

臼杵には昔から伝わるイベントや、伝承をもとに臼杵のまちなかを面白くするもあります。

臼杵ミワリークラブ

臼杵市に伝わる妖怪や民話・伝説をもとにイベントを行うクラブです。
臼杵の町の楽しみ方の一つとして妖怪話にスポットあてた「うすきミワリーツアー」や、うすき竹宵で一部、”薄気味悪い”雰囲気を作り出す「化宵」、またハロウィンのときに、「和ロウィン」と称して妖怪に仮装して行列をおこなう独特のイベントを行っています。

中秋の名月

臼杵市の各地区に伝わる「名月」。これはイベントというよりも文化なのですが、「中秋の名月」の日に、子供たちが「名月くーれんな、イモならいらんで」といって、各家庭にお菓子をもらいに歩き回るイベントです。今で言う「ハロウィン」みたいなものですが、これも昔から臼杵市に伝わる文化的イベントです。
